Cause & effect of Kavanaugh accusations has been immediate. While Senators are scrambling for position, social media is lit up. People are attacking or defending along party lines. Political psychologist, Dr. Bart Rossi, Ph.D. talks with WINK News to provide insights.
Propaganda has been around for millennia. Something changed in the United States in 2015. Propaganda shifted from specs of truth twisted into the desired story outcome to the promotion of outright lies. Now entire narratives are devoid of even a sliver of truth.
We’ve seen this play out over the last two years again and again, with social media being littered with fake mems. There are many quotes posted that never actually occurred.
Have American’s become that lazy? They seem to either accept fake posts as real rather than research it. Or, rather, They’ve become so deeply entrenched that they accept as truth that which they want to be true. The which they need to be true?
We’re seeing it play out yet again with the explosive allegations put forth by Dr. Christine Basely Ford. She claims that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her when they were in their teens. She says that, in a drunken state, Kavanaugh held her down and put his hand over her mouth when she yelled for help.
Social media has been littered with rumors, innuendos and outright falsehoods since the story broke. Of course memes about Bill Clinton. But also, memes have appeared represented as Ford, yet the photo shown wasn’t even her. The New York Times recently ran an article identifying and debunking 5 of the many rumors floating around social media.
