There was a time when all parents wanted for their kids was a shot at the American Dream. And the American Dream was defined in the ethos of hard work, honesty, and integrity. Together, those things for many decades resulted in a comfortable lifestyle.
So when it was revealed recently that over 20 wealthy families paid bribes to get their kids in the prestigious schools, the story has captured attention. For over a century there were wealthy families that would donate money to a given school, for a library, recreation center, stadium, or some other upgrade or extension. In return, those families often had it named after them, and it was silently known that when their kids applied to that school, they were given a little extra red carpet treatment.
But, this latest scandal was outright bribery. One would wonder how this may affect the public at large? What were the parents thinking?
