The psychology behind the headlines
Dr. Bart Rossi, PhD, is a political psychologist and commentator who explains the stories in the news — on television, on radio, and in print. He offers psychological insight into high-profile news in general and politics in particular: why leaders and candidates do what they do, how the public reacts, and what it means for the country.
On the air
He began his on-air commentary at MSNBC after serving as a legal analyst at NBC News. Since then, he has appeared on MSNBC, CBS, FOX 5, MY9, PIX11, and WHDT; on the cable news show News 12: Power & Politics; and on the Emmy-winning cable show The Fresh Outlook. In 2015, he appeared regularly on WINK-TV (ABC, Florida) for Campaign Central, and in 2016 he became the station’s political commentator.
On radio, he has appeared on The Wall Street Journal This Morning, the Alan Colmes Show on Fox Radio, the Jake Burkman Show, and WDUN Newstalk 550 in Atlanta. In print, he has been featured in the New York Daily News, USA Today, U.S. Daily Review, SOCIAL Magazine, and the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Magazine.
A career in clinical psychology
Before television, he spent decades in clinical practice. In 1977, he founded the Rossi Psychological Group, P.A., in Somerville, New Jersey, and served as CEO until 2013, leading a group of more than 50 licensed psychologists and medical professionals with expertise in specialized clinical areas. The group later became an affiliate of Vericare, the largest behavioral health company in the U.S.
He has served as co-director of the Independent Child Study Teams, Inc. in Jersey City and as director of the Adolescent Counseling Center of Somerset County. His work has included psychological evaluations for the New Jersey Parole Board, specialized training of more than 6,000 officers for the New Jersey Department of Corrections, and the Hudson County Employee Assistance Program. He has been a keynote speaker at the American Psychological Association’s annual Practice Directorate meeting, with representatives from all 50 states.
