Yes, it’s been a crazy few weeks, and Biden’s Out, Harris is in, and Trump is still Trump. In this coming weekend’s show, we will delve into the race shakeup, with Biden dropping out and Harris securing the delegates needed for the nomination. We will also discuss how it affects the Trump campaign.
So now that Harris is the new candidate, how does that affect the Trump campaign? The Trump camp and its allies have been drumming the drumbeat for two years about Biden’s age. In a speech, Nikki Haley specifically discussed age as an impediment to the White House and suggested that America should have an age limit. The problem is that, with Biden having dropped out of the race, Trump is the only “old” guy still running. So many of his allies, who only recently went from “he is a threat and can never be near the White House again” to “I fully endorse him,” will have to navigate their previous words about an aging candidate.
In the past few weeks, it has been pretty clear that Biden would step down and that Harris would be the obvious candidate. And yet, the Trump campaign seemed not to see it coming. Trump has personally attacked her as “dumb as a rock Harris”, which might not play considering she is a lawyer, former prosecutor, attorney General of California, Senator, and vice president. This may play to his base, but I seriously doubt that it will be met with anything but an insult to black men across the country.
The problem Trump faces is that he needs to debate Harris on the issues and policies, and he doesn’t have any to run on.
The media allies of Trump seemed to be caught equally flat-footed, as Hannity’s big attack was a montage and attack of Harris’s laugh. Really?
Harris has a 2% edge in the most recent polls, although it is far too early for that to mean anything. However, she received $100 million in donations in less than 48 hours.
As we now have a brand new horse race with only 100 days left, this week, I will examine what makes for a “winning personality” in a candidate. What do voters look for and respond to?
Tune in on Florida stations as listed below. Otherwise, check back here next week when we post the show post-airing.
