Promoting Emotional Intelligence

Psychologist Bart Rossi, Ph.D. stopped by the WINK studio to discuss how emotional intelligence affects students’ success at school.

How does your kid handle conflict? How do we motivate their creative abilities? And why should they be creative? The answer is that in addition to the creative things they’re producing, the act of getting better — regardless of the level they achieve — it builds confidence. And confidence is key to how well a child will interact with those around them.

Confidence can also help with self-awareness.

Parents can be helpful by being supportive when kids try new endeavors. They should also nudge kids to read  — regardless of what the materials are. They’ll likely enjoy reading more if they read the things that interest them; there is plenty of time for the classics as a later date.
